Motorcycle season is upon us and, here at The Simoniz Garage, we know how much you love your motorcycles. But what are the best ways to clean your motorcycle? With our expertise in the detailing industry, we want to make sure you are safely cleaning and maintaining all areas of your motorcycle.
To do this, we put together a Complete Motorcycle Detail Kit that includes everything you will need to clean your entire bike from the windshield, to the paint, to the engine and chrome, and maintain your leather.
Tools to Clean your Motorcycle
Let's start with the tools we tools we included in the kit. Microfiber Towels (6pk) is the most important aspect of this kit. Any cleaning product should be removed with a microfiber towel to make sure we do not leave any residue or scratch the chrome and painted surfaces when removing contaminants.
On top of this, we included two detail brushes; the Vent & Dash Brush and the 10" Heavy Duty Detail Brush. The vent & dash brush is perfect for all the intricate cleaning around your handle bars, seat and headlights. These long bristles will easily get those hard to reach areas and is best used with the cleaning solution sprayed directly onto the brush itself and then used on the surface. The heavy duty brush is similar to the vent and dash brush, however it's stronger bristles make it more effective with engine and wheel cleaning. Again, we have to remember that when using these brushes, it is important to use a microfiber towel to remove the contaminants that were stirred up by the brushes.
The last tool we included is the Terry Cloth Applicator Pad. This tool is essential for leather and chrome cleaning. The terry cloth will not scratch the surfaces while gently cleaning and applying polish or conditioner to the surface you are working on.
Products to Clean each section of your Motorcycle
Motorcycle Windshield Cleaning
In this kit there are multiple products that are favorites among the car enthusiast community. And for your windshield Vision Clear Glass Cleaner Aerosol is the best product on the market. This product is ammonia free so it is safe on all surfaces (it is a neutral cleaner), not just the windshield. Our formula is still strong enough to cut through dirt and bugs, while leaving a streak free shine.
Motorcycle Paint Cleaning and Protection
From our experience, one of the biggest issues when cleaning a motorcycle is not being able to get to the wash and wax soap that seeps into parts of the engine and leaves water spots and residue. That is why we include Simoniz SmartWash Waterless Wash and Wax instead of our car wash soaps. This way you can work in small sections, while not allowing the normal wash and wax to seep into places you cannot dry. Additionally, we want to protect the paint and make it easier to clean the next time we need to wash our bikes. We added Simoniz Ceramic Sealant into the mix to add hydrophobic ceramic paint protection to your bike. This is safe to use on all painted surfaces and glass. Don't allow dirt or road grime to stick to your beautiful paint and increase your ability to keep it clean. In between washes, you will be able to just spray down your bike to remove contaminants from your paints surface without having to go through the entire wash process.
Motorcycle Engine and Chrome Cleaning
The most difficult parts to clean, the chrome and the engine components. What is safe to use on them and what isn't? When it comes cleaning chromed surfaces and removing oil, gas or other fluids while maintaining your bikes engine, we recommend Simoniz All-Purpose Cleaner Degreaser. It is an incredibly effective and necessary product for all detailing projects. This product is a multi-surface work horse that can be used to remove body oils, food oil and road oils from plastics, fabric, paint, engines, carpets, wheel and garage floors as well as many other surfaces. All-Purpose Cleaner Degreaser is a water-soluble formula that allows for ample working time without fear of flashing or fading. Simply spray, agitate and wipe away with a microfiber towel.
Once you remove all the contaminants from the engine, exhaust, etc. now we move on to Simoniz Chrome Polish. Designed with classic cars and motorcycles in mind and it works great on any chrome surface. This chrome polish cleans and restores the original beauty and shine to bumpers, trim and moldings. It's non-abrasive so there is no chances of it leaving scratches but it will remove minor rust and bring dull chrome back to life. Wipe away residue with a microfiber towel and try not to blind your fellow riders with the shine off your chrome pieces.
Motorcycle Seat Cleaning
The seat on motorcycles take a beating more than any other seat on the road. Why? They are exposed to the elements more than any other leather seat. If you have heavy contamination of your seats, you can tap into All Purpose Cleaner Degreaser which is already included in the kit, or add Simoniz Interior Cleaner to take care of those tougher stains. Simoniz Interior cleaner is designed to dry quickly to eliminate mildew and water staining on upholstered surfaces.
